We are thrilled to announce that Formula Botanica school director Lorraine Dallmeier has won the prestigious Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) UK Digital Achiever Award 2018 sponsored by Google.
CEW is a global, not-for-profit organisation that started life over 60 years ago in the United States and launched in 1992 in the UK where it now has over 1,000 members. It brings beauty industry figures together and contributes to leading conversations on topics shaping the sector’s future. CEW also provides members with unparalleled access to industry influencers and thought leaders.
Its prestigious annual awards, which recognise professional achievement and innovation in the industry, are the very public face of CEW. The CEW Digital Achiever Award category, now its fifth year, rewards the accomplishments of those who have excelled in their field by creating consumer and business value through remarkable digital execution.
On news of her win, Lorraine said she was honoured to accept the Digital Achiever Award which will be presented at the official award ceremony in London on 6 November.
“Winning this award means so much to me. I am very grateful to CEW and Google for recognising my achievements. Many thanks go to my fantastic team and our close-knit community of students for making Formula Botanica the go-to education platform for organic skincare formulation”, Lorraine said.
An Award to Share with our Students and Graduates
When Lorraine took on Formula Botanica in early 2014, while she was on maternity leave with her newborn baby and 3-year old toddler, she had imagined it would be just a small hobby business that she could run by herself, and which would generate a modest income to supplement her day job.
Fast-forward to today and Formula Botanica is now a multi-million pound global teaching institution backed by a 20-plus-strong team. Together, we create a range of award-winning online courses in natural, organic skincare and haircare formulation that contribute to educating the global green beauty sector.
Over 5,300 organic skincare entrepreneurs in 136 countries have gone through our online curriculum, which helps people access quality, online learning in cosmetic formulation and related subjects as an alternative to traditional university degrees and training delivered by cosmetic chemistry societies.
The fact that so many of our cohort of learners have found in Formula Botanica’s accredited e-Learning programme the impetus to change their lives and careers is humbling. We are constantly in awe of our growing community of entrepreneurs who have founded their indie beauty brands off the back of our online training. Many of our graduates’ brands are now stocked by major retailers, and have themselves won awards and are receiving rave reviews from customers.
“I really see this award as testimony not only of the school’s achievements but also of those of our students and graduates whose studies have given them the tools, know-how and self belief to go on to start their brands. Each graduate success story we come across is reward in itself to the whole Formula Botanica team”, said Lorraine.
Acknowledging Formula Botanica’s Value in the Industry
The CEW Digital Achiever Award is the second bestowed on the school and its Director in the past couple of years. Formula Botanica received the 2016 gold award for ‘Excellence in the Design of Learning Content’ at the International Learning Technologies Awards. Together, these awards demonstrate the value the industry places on the school’s e-Learning platform as an exceptional learning experience for those wishing to gain qualifications in the cosmetic industry.
The CEW Digital Achiever Award acknowledges also the digital marketing and publishing capabilities we have built up alongside the accredited learning platform. The school now runs a formidable media arm covering topical beauty industry issues and views through its blog and podcast. The info-rich blog currently attracts 100,000 readers a month to its info-packed blog where she and her team tackle topics on organic formulation and beauty entrepreneurship. Formula Botanica further publishes the popular Green Beauty Conversations podcast, which hit the #1 spot in the Fashion & Beauty category in iTunes within its first 24 hours of launching.
What makes this story even more remarkable is that Lorraine has achieved Formula Botanica’s success through predominantly organic growth, using a digital marketing strategy that involves online content creation, community engagement and social media. This organic approach currently attracts over 1 million impressions per month to the School’s digital networks.
“I hope my own story and that of Formula Botanica will inspire other women to seek out and grow their own careers in the beauty industry at every level, whether employed or as entrepreneurs,” says Lorraine. “Women dominate the beauty industry as consumers; it’s about time to see us leading the cosmetic sector’s agendas, conversations and businesses more than ever before.”
