The brand was founded by Jemila Bwanhot in 2020 with a mission to help black women embrace and care for their hair with the best of nature’s ingredients. Before launching, Jemila researched the specific hair care struggles of black women and also drew on her own experiences. This enabled her to create an intentional brand that is people-oriented and customer-focused.

Formula Botanica gave Jemila the unique perspective she needed to understand natural ingredients and formulate products that combine ancient wisdom with modern innovation. She also learned how to take her passion for healthy hair and turn it into a profitable business.
