For Formula Botanica graduate Deanna Yusoff, an interest in skincare began long before she became a formulator. After moving to Switzerland at the age of 12, the change in climate brought new experiences of dryness and sensitivity, prompting her to start paying closer attention to how she cared for her skin.
Years later, following an established career as an actress, Deanna’s interest in natural skincare developed into a new professional direction. As her own skin changed through different stages of life, she became increasingly interested in understanding skin function and exploring a more holistic approach to caring for maturing skin.
Deanna graduated from Formula Botanica’s International Organic Skincare Entrepreneur Program in 2020. She says her studies gave her not only a strong foundation in formulation, but also the freedom to experiment. Having access to a wide range of courses allowed her to develop, test and refine ideas – and, importantly, recognise when an idea wasn’t right to pursue.
For Deanna, this process changed the way she thought about being a formulator. She learnt to approach formulation more intentionally, considering not simply how to create a product, but why she was creating it and what role it would play within a wider approach to skincare.
That thinking eventually led to Lummniq, a lightweight botanical night oil serum developed with humid climates and maturing skin in mind. In 2026, Lummniq received recognition at the Beauty Shortlist Awards, marking an important milestone in Deanna’s formulation journey.
Her experience within the Formula Botanica community also shaped her perspective on entrepreneurship. Seeing the diversity of brands being developed by fellow students was inspiring, but it also gave her what she describes as a more realistic understanding of the industry: creating a beautiful, well-formulated product is only one part of building something sustainable.
Over time, Deanna’s work has expanded beyond formulation into what she calls the Serenity Method – her holistic approach to skincare, which considers skincare alongside lifestyle, rhythm and consistency. Rather than seeing formulation as the whole answer, Deanna now sees it as one part of a broader philosophy of caring for the skin over time.
